Spean Bridge: Spean Bridge is a village in the Great Glen about 10 miles north of Fort William perhaps best known for its historical links with the Commando Training during the Second World War. Troops came to Spean Bridge to train for war in the surrounding mountains and were based at nearby Achnacarry Castle.
A mile north of Spean Bridge on the A82 stands the famous Commando Monument. The Monument is a major landmark and offers some stunning views of Ben Nevis and the surrounding mountains.
