Holiday Accommodation in and around New Cumnock

New Cumnock: Ayr 20 miles; Dumfries 40 miles; Kilmarnock 20 miles. The village of New Cumnock is steeped in history dating back to the 13th century. The famous Scottish poet Robert Burns frequently visited the nearby beautiful river valley of Glen Afton, and made the River Afton famous in the song 'Flow gently sweet Afton among thy green braes'. A memorial cairn has been created partway along the Glen by local Burns enthusiasts, and it has an attractive picnic area. Ideally situated for exploring the stunning scenery of Ayrshire and the Isle of Arran, the area boasts the stunning links courses of Royal Troon and Turnberry, both well worth a visit, as is the historic seaside resort of Ayr, which offers excellent shops, bars, restaurants and sandy beaches. Wonder at the spectacular 18th century Culzean Castle, in its picturesque cliff-top setting, or enjoy the 600 acre country park complete with deer park and swan pond. Visit Drumlanrig Castle to take in the fine art, antiques, impressive gardens and tearoom, or take a trip to Dumfries House to view the collection of Chippendale furniture or explore the grounds of the estate - you may even encounter the resident 'smelly' ghost! A lovely part of Scotland, with something to suit all tastes.
